Top career advice: fight to be irreplaceable—but first decide who you actually want to be…
I do a lot of 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 calls, and the advice I give is usually pretty consistent. This is always at the 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁:

We are all replaceable, but striving to be irreplaceable to your teammates is something that will separate you from the pack.

Think about your day, is there someone at work that you could not imagine doing your job without? Have you ever told them?
Now on the other side, how many people would say that about you?
I asked this question anonymously years ago to my team. What I found was there were a few names on the list multiple times and many names not on the list. The names on that list were not surprising to me as the leader, but it did shine a light on this key common trait that they all shared.
I believe being irreplaceable to another
member of your team is achievable for anyone and by delivering for others, you will achieve more success overall.
