The weakest position you can be in a corporate role is guessing what your boss wants…
A great leader wants you to make decisions based on your beliefs.
A great leader wants decisions that align with a clear strategy.
A great leader will stand by you when things go wrong, knowing the process was sound.
If you feel like your boss wants you to guess to appease them, then let them make the decision.
The best advice I got when I switched to a new boss was this:
“Do this job the way you want to do it. The way you believe it should be done.
Don’t do it how you think I want you to do it. Don’t do it how your previous boss would have done it. Be yourself.**
If it works, great.
If it doesn’t, at least you gave it everything you had and it was YOUR way. No regrets.”
Fun fact: It worked.
