We've talked before about sports teams getting creative with custom concession cups.

But the Carolina Hurricanes deserve some serious credit for what they've done with the beer skate. πΊπ
During the 2026 NHL playoffs, Carolina introduced a souvenir beer skate, and fans went crazy for it.
4,687 sold during the first game. The first 2,000 were gone in approximately 48 minutes, and the entire supply sold out before the third period.
Nearly one out of every four fans in attendance bought one!
And now the idea is spreading. The San Jose Sharks have introduced their own version, and the Dallas Stars have announced theirs for later this month.
Carolina didn't just sell beer. They made buying beer part of the entertainment.
Think about that.
Fans were already going to buy a beer. But put it in a collectible hockey skate, and suddenly they're taking pictures, sharing videos and showing their friends.
Now you've created a souvenir, generated organic exposure and opened up another revenue opportunity.
All from a transaction that was already happening.
This is the kind of creativity I love seeing in sports.
Not every great fan experience requires a massive investment or some revolutionary new technology.
Sometimes you just need to look at something you're already doing and ask:
How could we make this more fun?
Carolina did. And now other teams are following.
Pretty cool. π»
