I often talk about the importance of telling your story, and this week I realized that I haven't done a great job of telling a part of CUENTO (opens the CUENTO site in a new tab)'s story...

When Katie and I left our jobs to start our own company, there were two assumptions:

1) we had been fired

2) someone was funding us

Both of these assumptions are false, but I don't think I've done a great job of telling the story of #2. We had to figure out how to afford to pay ourselves, so we built a plan to save money over time while hustling on nights and weekends to be ready to take the leap. We were committed to building and owning this business ourselves.

If you've ever bootstrapped a business, you know the highs and lows of this journey. I don't want anyone to think that we haven't faced those challenges. I also want to emphasize that you don't necessarily need funding to pursue what will make you happiest.

I've always preached that if you don't tell your story, someone else will do it for you. So, I wanted to take this moment to set the record straight. I'm incredibly proud of what we're building at CUENTO, and even prouder of what we've had to do to get here.
