Being an agent of change creates friction.
If it doesn’t… you’re probably not changing much.
Real change is uncomfortable.
It challenges habits.
It challenges priorities.
Sometimes it challenges people.
And if you’re the one pushing that change, you become the tip of the spear.
That means you absorb the pressure.
I’ll admit something about myself…
I like to be liked.
But if your job is to move an organization forward, you have to accept a hard truth:
Not everyone will like you for it.
Some people will rise to the challenge.
Others will resist it.
And a few will decide the next chapter isn’t for them.
That’s not failure.
That’s clarity.
In fact, clarity is one of the most valuable things leadership can provide.
When leaders clearly declare where the organization is going, people can decide if they want to be part of that journey.
Most of the major moves in my career came from realizing I didn’t want to stay where things were headed.
That level of self-awareness isn’t easy. Change requires courage.
Recently my team and I spent time doing some real soul-searching around a few challenges we were facing.
One thing became crystal clear:
Vision alone doesn’t create momentum.
Alignment does.
And alignment doesn’t happen because you said the vision once.
It happens when everyone in the organization can repeat it back to you.
Not the slogan.
The mission.
So if you’re leading change right now and feeling friction…
Good.
That means something real is happening.
