Cam Newton just gave every athlete, executive, and business owner the same warning:
"If you don't own your own platform, you're going to get overlooked, bypassed, and be extinct just like dinosaurs."
He's right.
Cam said he viewed his time at ESPN as an internship for building his own platform.
That's the mindset.
Learn from the platforms that give you an audience. Study what they do well. Pay attention to what they get wrong. Then build something you own.
Barstool Sports did it.
Jomboy Media did it.
CUENTO Marketing (opens the CUENTO site in a new tab) is working to do it.
They didn't become influential because they had the biggest budgets. They became influential because they built direct relationships with their audience.
That's why sports teams aren't just competing on the field anymore. They're competing for attention every day as media companies. The same lesson applies whether you're an athlete, an executive, or a business owner.
If someone else owns your audience, they own your reach.
Build your own platform. Tell your own story. Own your relationship with your audience.
Because platforms change. Algorithms change. Employers change.
The audience you build is the only one you get to keep.

One of my favorite parts about telling your story is when others start telling it too. 🎤
